Oshokomole For President
With the victory handed over to Ahmed Makarfi as the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party comes a new twist in the 2019 presidential race.
Following the victory declaration, the Ekiti State governor, Peter Ayodele Fayose, who had earlier threatened to leave the party should Senator Alimodu Sherif be handed the Party chairmanship by the apex court, has ‘declared’ his intention to run for the highest office of the land in the 2019 race.
Not yet officially told to the public, the Oshokomole of Ekiti land made his intention to run in 2019 with the opening of his presidential campaign page on Facebook.
Fayose had initially said he would approach the Supreme Court to determine his eligibility to run again for the office of governor of his state because of his inability to finish his first term in office but obviously has abandoned that notion for a higher one.
The governor, whose impeachment then had been declared null and void by the apex court, had said there was need to finish his first four years in office.
Fayose, who is the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party Governors’ Forum, was one of the two governors in the party who spoke vehemently against the continued stay in office of the former National Chairman of the party, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff whose emergence into the office was ironically spearheaded by this same Governor Fayose.
The PDP had zoned the position of the party’s presidential candidate to the northern part of the country.
It is, however, not clear if the party would go back on this, but analysts believed that Fayose could be positioning himself for the position of running mate for the party’s presidential candidate.
The three organs of the party, which are the Expanded National Caucus, Board of Trustees and the National Executive Committee are in a meeting in Abuja yesterday Monday and today Tuesday.
In a same light, former Governor of Ekiti state, Chief Olusegun Oni has yesterday declared his intention to retake the office of the first gentleman of Ekiti state.
